You might have noticed that the market suddenly seems to have exploded with beeswax reusable food wraps, and for good reason. Aside from reducing the use of soft plastics that end up in landfill and don’t decompose, beeswax wraps are sustainable, washable, last for around a year, and once their lifespan is up, compostable.
My sister’s boyfriend really began the push towards sustainability in our household. His biggest pet peeve is incorrect recycling, namely soft plastics. In fact, he printed a list of ‘yes and ‘no’ items to recycle, and which to soft plastic recycle. At first, it was annoying. And a little weird. A 19 year old guy would not have been my first pick at an advocate for sustainability. But sure enough, we all caught on and now we don’t even think about recycling correctly.
But after a few months of watching how much soft plastic we actually used, I was shocked. This is just one household of five people. And we use this much soft plastic each week?? How much is used in our street? In our suburb? In our country? And after its single use, it’s thrown in the bin with no thought of how long it will sit in landfill. Terrifying to consider. Luckily, there are plenty of forward-thinking small businesses out there who have a solution to this problem: sustainable, reusable and compostable beeswax wraps!
Other than functionality, sustainability, ethics etc., there is one deciding factor on which brands of beeswax wraps get my vote: a pretty pattern. I love beautiful things and that extends to everyday household items. So, here is my roundup of the prettiest beeswax wraps on the market:
Abeego are a Canadian company that pride themselves on being forerunners in the beeswax wrap/ reusable wrap movement. They are all natural and designed to last. The company respects the bees that produce the valuable beeswax that coats the hemp and organic cotton cloth. Their designs are minimalist black and white with adorable food illustrations. You can find them on Instagram here.

Goldilocks Wraps was started by ocean-lover Amy Hall in Canada. She began her own zero-waste journey after volunteering with a shark conservation organisation. Amy’s beeswax wrap designs are absolutely gorgeous- think nautical themes, florals and bee hives and all are handmade in small batches. My absolute favourite is her Camping Adventure range shown below. You can follow Goldilocks Wraps here.
